CSL Australia Awarded Preferred Tenderer Status

August 26, 2010
Sydney, NSW:  CSL Australia (CSLA) has been awarded preferred tenderer status for transhipment services for Western Plains Resources' (WPR) proposed new iron ore mine in South Australia.

In a media release announcing the decision, WPR pointed to CSL's track record of transhipping export iron ore at Whyalla, South Australia, as well as shipping other dry bulk commodities for customers on the Australia coast, and to CSL Asia Shipping's coal transhipping operation in Indonesia.

WPR’s strategy is to have the new mine, Peculiar Knob, fully permitted and financed so that a commitment to project development can be taken in the second half of 2010, with sales commencing in the second half of 2011. CSLA would handle the transhipment operations, loading Capesize vessels at anchor for international markets.

Preferred tenderer status allows CSLA and WPR to work together to finalize contract documentation.

Western Plains Resources Ltd is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange under the symbol WPG. The company is based in Sydney.
